MAJOR DESIGN ELEMENTS

  • 36 Rooms — and a suite for the on-site inn keeper.

  • Two Stories — Building heights in the proposed development align with those found throughout downtown Carpinteria and are lower than the adjacent commercial and residential properties.

  • 139 Parking Spaces — The net gain will be 26 parking spaces, including a new 93 space parking lot on the ocean side of the tracks.

  • Cafe on the ground floor.

  • Rooftop deck open to the public.

HISTORIC ROOTS. BRIGHT FUTURE.

The history of this site has an interesting twist. In 1887, a plan was underway to build the main railway depot near Delgado’s restaurant, where local resident Russel Heath was negotiating to sell his land to the railroad. Instead, H.J. Laughlin said he would give his land on Linden Avenue to the railroad. Laughlin wanted visitors on Linden Avenue in order to support his White Sulphur Well Hotel (later The Palms). Laughlin’s plan worked. He was able to establish Downtown Carpinteria near today’s rail stop on Linden Avenue, and the rest is history.

The Surfliner Inn will serve a similar purpose into the future. Travelers can experience Carpinteria’s Downtown from a convenient location and at an inn that pays tribute to Carpinteria’s history while supporting this generation of businesses.

NEW BEACH PARKING

In order to build The Surfliner Inn, a new parking lot needs to be added. Constructing a new parking lot will be STEP ONE, so there will never be a time when beach parking is unavailable due to construction.

The new parking lot will have 93 spaces and a public restroom on the beach side of the railroad tracks.

Added Parking: 26 spaces will be gained overall. All parking spots are open to the public.

All new spots will be on City of Carpinteria property on the ocean side of the railroad tracks at Linden Avenue.

46 parking spots will remain at the rail stop and all will be open to the public.

100% of the cost of constructing the new lot will be paid by the developer.
